- Logon to the Windows Home Server Administrator Desktop
- Firefly Media Server requires Apple’s Bonjour. To download Bonjour go to
Download Bonjour, and install on your Windows Home Server.
- Download Firefly Media Server from
http://nightlies.mt-daapd.org/dl.php?FILE=Firefly Media Server (svn-1696).exe
Install Firefly Media Server, and then after the install has completed, you will need to configure Firefly Media Server.
NOTE: This release (svn-1696) is a nightly release, it was released on October 29th. I personally have been using it since that date and have had no issues, however if you would rather use the stable release (svn-1498)it can be found at the below location.
http://nightlies.mt-daapd.org/dl.php?FILE=Firefly Media Server (svn-1498).exe
- To configure Firefly Media Server, right click on the Firefly icon in the system tray and click Configure Firefly Media Server. (It’s the orange orb icon)
- In the Configuration window, you can change the Library Name to the name of your choice. The Library Name is what iTunes uses as the name of the shared library.
For media location you have to specify ‘D:\Shares\Music’
You can also specify if you would like to password protect the library.
After you have made your desired changes, click Apply, and then click Yes on the window asking if you want to restart Firefly Media Server, then click OK to close the configuation window.
Open iTunes on a home PC, and you should now see a shared media library and it will contain the music on your Home Server.
Note: After the initial configuration, it will take some time for Firefly to process all your media, and build its database for iTunes to use.
Congratulations, you have now configured Firefly Media Server to share your music with iTunes on your home PCs.

Hi. I am trying to build a shared iTunes library on my WHS (HP Mediasmart with Firefly included)
But I also want to manage the library using Windows MediaPlayer and MediaMonkey. Have you tried this - and if so what directory structure are you using on the WHS and on you Clients?
